Green Building News Update

At GreenCheck, our team of sustainability experts strive to keep our clients apprised of any pending changes in the industry which might affect them. Accordingly, please review the information below, as it provides updates to key upcoming certification and reporting timetables:

BOMA BEST® 4.0 Coming Soon

The new BOMA BEST® standard will be available for download on January 1, 2023. Submissions under the new standard may be made, starting on April 1, 2023. The last day to submit applications under the old 3.0 standard will be March 31, 2023.

  • GreenCheck Advice: The new standard is widely expected to be more stringent (and potentially more costly as a result). If you’re considering BOMA BEST certification for your properties over the upcoming several months, it’s recommended for you to begin the process as soon as possible to get in before the changeover deadline.

December 31, 2022 is the deadline to submit COVID-related deferral requests, for most criteria and BEST Practices. It is also the last day to certify as a low-occupancy building. After this date, buildings will be required to meet all normal occupancy requirements.

  • GreenCheck Advice: If any of your properties are still operating at significantly reduced occupancy figures, and are considering BOMA BEST certification over the upcoming months, it would be recommended that the certification process be started as soon as possible to ensure all certification requirements are met.
