Canada’s National Day of Mourning – April 28th

This Sunday (April 28) is Canada’s National Day of Mourning.

It’s a day dedicated to remembering those who were lost, or suffered injury or illness due to a work related tragedy. It’s also a day to come together and renew our commitment to improving health and safety initiatives and preventing further incidents, injuries and deaths – an initiative that’s very important to us.

On Sunday, we also recognize the families affected by the tragedies, that have been forever changed as a result of work-related incidents.

Employers and workers will observe the National Day of Mourning in a variety of ways. Some will attend ceremonies, light candles, lay wreaths, wear commemorative pins, ribbons or black armbands, and pause for a moment of silence at 11:00 a.m.

The flags will fly at half-mast at Parliament and federal government buildings.

We hope you’ll join us in remembering, and in our continued commitment to health & safety.
